When you’re looking at one of the most anticipated games of the last ten
years it might be hard to not feel like you’re going over the game with
a fine toothed comb. Every nook and cranny should be examined with the
finest care. But, will you find the game you’ve been looking for? Or a
game that’s too close to its predecessor?
In the month before the
release of StarCraft II, Blizzard ran an extended beta that gave gamers
an endless amount of time to explore the game’s multiplayer. This
review isn’t about that. While the world was drooling for the
multiplayer, I was begging for the singleplayer, and I got everything I
wanted and more. The story of StarCraft II is undeniably one of the best
stories in gaming. Before starting this sequel I had planned on picking
up the StarCraft books. After playing the game it became clear that I
had to pick up those books. That’s something I can’t say about most
games that have corresponding book series, but the StarCraft story
totally grabbed me.

When it comes to fans of Need for Speed, the idea
of taking the long running racer into the realm of an MMO is pleasant
thought. Racing through the streets with old friends and new ones while
building your own character sounds like a great idea. As add cars and
customizing those cars only helps to whet the appetite of most race
fans. But when you add in the causal game factor you might be a little
confused at what you find. In the new MMO Need for Speed World racer
fans get their chance to take their racing style to the world but is
this game the racing sim they’ve been waiting for or another casual game
for the growing casual audience?

The newest addition to Left 4 Dead 2 is more than just the average
add-on campaign. These new story known as The Passing gives the story of
Left 4 Dead 2 a much needed connection to the survivors from the first
Left 4 Dead.
For PC users these levels are being released as a
free add-on within a patch. When it comes to Xbox 360 users, you're
unfortunately forced to purchase the levels. This doesn’t mean that I'm
not going to review this new episode in L4D2 even though it was free for
most. It only means that some of us are luckier than others.
Nevertheless, before I can truly talk about the good and bad of The
Passing we have to first talk about The Passing itself and its impact on
the franchise. This new campaign contains what's probably the most
important moment in the series since arriving on the roof top in the
first Left 4 Dead.

The newest trend in gaming is the old west. This time period of lawless
man, quick gun fights and gold mining is on the mind of most gamers.
However, up until now, the period never had a chance to shine. For
years, gamers had to struggle with bad controls, bad stories and a miss
understanding of what the old west means to most gamers. This had more
to do with our concept of the old west and it being tainted by film and
not so much by true history. But for gamers there were only one of two
games that really captured the true nature of the time, or at least our
understanding of it.
Now a new game from Fatshark studios and
Paradox Games, Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West looks to take the
idea of the old west and give it some team based action.

In August of 2007 the world was given BioShock. To many, the game was
heralded as a turning point in gaming. With an ambitious story and no
multiplayer in a first person shooter, the game was thought to be a new
way of presenting this action heavy genre. This is even after games
like Half Life, Deus EX and System Shock made the same attempts in
previous years.
The first BioShock gave publishers a new found
confidence in game writing and it gave players a new world to explore
and fall in love with. Yet, even before the release of the game,
players and journalists wanted to know about a multiplayer mode. These
requests were quenched when the game’s sequel and its multiplayer mode
was officially announced in March of 2008.
Fast forward two
years and 2K Games has released the all new BioShock 2. So is this the
story driven first person shooter fans have been waiting for, or is it
a lame attempt at trying to recapture the magic of 2007?
