With Halloween right around the corner, you might be looking for a game that fits the holiday. Konami has the game for you with the new XBLA title Zombie Apocalypse. In this new 4 player Smash TV styled shooter you must fight off waves of flesh eating zombies, pick-up power-ups and save survivors. To do all this all you'll need is a gun, chainsaw and a bomb filled teddy-bear. It might sound like a tall order, but for most, this task is pretty simple.

Zombie Apocalypse has a decent learning curve with maps that are large enough to excite any gamer. There might only be a few maps, but to change things up a little the time of day and overall lighting is adjusted to vary the difficulty. The zombies themselves start simplistically and build in strength like most games of this type. This creates a nice pace for players looking for a gradual challenge. This is really the heart of Zombie Apocalypse. There's no story about how or why the zombies are there, and there's really no end to the onslaught of these creatures. It's just you and your 3 other friends.

For what it's worth Zombie Apocalypse is an OK game. It doesn't jump out as a must have title, but if you're looking for a quick casual horror game that only takes a few minutes to play, this is it. With online play you can have up to 4 players take on a map which is where the fun really starts. However, it's tough trying to find 3 other players that are the same skill level as yourself. That is unless you're really good. A side from this, the game can be a little bland. The cute jokes spewed out by the exploding Teddy-Bear gets old quick and there are very few shocking moments. So don't expect anything more then an old school arcade game, which is Zombie Apocalypse's greatest attribute. It only takes about 5 minutes to play, so if you're looking to run through one level you can do so and the game doesn't pressure you to continue moving on. There's no real story here and the next level is generally the same as the last one. I don't know if I would recommend it to a hardcore gamer, but a casual player would love Zombie Apocalypse, which is why it gets a 6 out 10.06.png
