X-Men Origins: Wolverine DLC Review PDF Print E-mail

Recently Activision made new downloadable content available for X-Men Origins Wolverine. The content however is only half new. If you pre-ordered the game from gamespot you would have received an unlock code for the content. In this new bonus mode is called the Weapon X Arena. This arena consists of four doors, all containing a cavalcade of demented fun.

The DLC takes place in the basement of the X-Mansion, which connects it to the actual comics and movies. Behind door number one, you have the dismemberment room. It displays one of the many soldiers that you tear apart in the game, but now you just choose what limb you would like to see torn of their body. After some quick setting up you sit back and enjoy the carnage.

Next you find the environmental kill room, where you have one goal it's pretty much self explanatory. The room gives you an arena you hurl your enemies into a cement mixer or impaling them onto a spike of a statue. You don't really win any achievements for doing so, but if you are playing the game for the first time it's great for practice and getting a feel for the game.

After that, down the hall is the enemy test room. This room allows you take on any enemies from the game, except for main bosses. You can fight up to ten enemies at one time in any combination of enemies. This can also be from any chapter of the game and put together in any ten unit combo to fight in a single wave. Surprisingly this room comes in handy as you move onto the finally room.

Last but certainly not least is the ladder challenge room. In this room you take on wave after wave of enemies, ranging in difficulty, until you complete fifty waves of enemies. What I found interesting was that in this challenge you'll see a vast mix up of different enemies from different chapters of the game. For example you could fight a wave of foot soldiers with Leviathans. So in the enemy test room you could prepare for such a situation. If you do manage to get all the way to wave fifty, which is not easy, you are met by two Wolverines. Yes two wolverines, if you've beaten everything else why not beat yourself like you stole something, twice. When you do get through all fifty waves you get a pretty clever screen but no real prize.

This new content is great for just messing around, it adds to the already rich replay value. For the fan boy in us all, it stays relevant to the comics and movies in accurately depicting the X-Mansion. It doesn't hurt the story mode and if you're only interested in messing around it's a lot of fun. It gets an 8 out 10. 08.png
