Earlier this week, Hulu announced Hulu
Plus, a new subscription based service for the website that offers
everything a television watch needs while their away from their PC.
Right now, the service is available for the iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad. Later
the Xbox
360 and PlayStation 3 will be added.
On the surface, this may
sound like a service no one could be upset about but things aren't
always perfect. Right now it looks like you'll need more than just Hulu
Plus to enjoy all that streaming video goodness. On the Xbox 360,
it's rumored that you'll need an Xbox LIVE gold account. On
the PlayStation 3 it looks like things are just about the same and you
might need a PlayStation Plus account before getting Hulu Plus
to display on your console.
This doesn't sound like a shocking
situation for Xbox 360 owners since LIVE
gold is required for most online content but not for PS3 owners. With
the introduction of PlayStation Plus, Sony's new subscription service,
PS3 owners are just now being introduced to a new world that could start
costing more than what they bargained for originally. If the new Hulu Plus
service works as well as intended these things won't really matter and
we'll happily pay any price.
When you're top dog everyone wants to take you down. When it comes to
MMOs, no one is as big as World of Warcraft. Since the game's release
its become one of the the largest pay-to-play games in history. However,
this huge success doesn't allow Blizzard to just jump by and wait for
the next big to come along and toss them from the top of the gaming
mountain. Which is why, keeping up with the latest MMO trends is a tough
job.
Recently while speaking to PC
gamer, World of Warcraft lead designer Tom Chilton explained that
the growing number of games using the free-to-play mode could prompt
Blizzard to make some corrections to their current model. Ultimatly it doesn't mean that World
of Warcraft is going to dump the pay-to-model and open the flood gates
but it does mean they're keeping an eye on the current trends.
Recently Valve began releasing a series of videos used to demo Portal 2
at the E3. The videos are a lot of fun to watch and really display that
this is a full out sequel. Each video shows the vast scope of the new
title and the growth in gameplay and story. However, there is a great
possibility that we’re looking at too much at one time.
With
these seven videos, we learn about new characters and a lot of new
weapons and style of play. Now, it’s true we would probably see all of
this content over the next few months before Portal 2 is released but
dropping it all at one time or over the course of a week is a little
strange. Maybe I wouldn’t be so concerned if these video were released
slower.
Either way, the videos are available here in all their
glory. It’s up to you to watch them or leave them alone. Just follow of
the Link or scroll down and enjoy, the choice is yours.
If you grew up after 1984 you already know the Transformers. Since its
original release, every generation has had some iteration of the robots
in disguise. Recently kids have been reintroduced to the franchise with
two new movies and the new anima styled show,
Transformers Animated. However, for older gamers, we still long for the
days where Bumblebee could talk and the storylinesweren’t
crammed into a marathon of explosions.
The stories of the first
Transformers series were dark and always worth watching. Even today if
you pick up some of the older episodes you’ll see that the show still
holds up. There was so much potential for a decent video game, sad to
say the technology just wasn’t available to make a
proper game when the show first aired. There were a few attempts at a
game over the years, but nothing worth talking about. Now, over 20 years
later the time has come for there to be a game that features the
original Transformers based on the original storyline. Hopefully it’s
worth the wait.
The investment of the PlayStation 3 is finally paying off for Sony.
After four long years Sony's flagship systems is now making some cash.
While talking to IGN (via 1up) Sony
Worldwide Studios president, Shuhei Yoshida explained that the
entertainment giant is not losing money on each system produced.
"This year is the first time that we are able to cover the cost of the
PlayStation 3," Yoshida said. "We aren't making huge money from
hardware, but we aren't bleeding like we used to."
This is
great news for those that are fans of the system but don't expect this
to become the foundation for price cuts on the system. This only means
that Sony is making money on the system. Price cuts will come much
later.
When it comes to patches, some people wonder what needs changing, while
others want to know what took so long. Either way a few changes are
needed in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and tonight we're getting those
changes.
Starting tonight at 1 a.m. EST the Bad Company 2
servers will go down for four hours to apply some needed changes. This
means two things for hardcore BC2 players.1. you can get some sleep
tonight and 2. you can cry that the changes suck a little after 5 a.m.
tomorrow morning with fresh cup of coffee.
The fun part about free-to-play games is that they last a long time.
This is probably why we need to remind you that they hit a milestone.
For Battlefield Heroes that newest milestone is its first anniversary.
For those playing the game, it might not seem like they've been a war
for a year. For those that haven't played the game you might still need a
reason. Well today and tomorrow you can jump on Battlefields Heroes and
get an xp boost along with some bandages to celebrate the anniversary
with the code you'll find after the jump.
There are three types of PC gamers. You have the gamers that’ll use any
computer around, there are the hardcore gamers that build their own
machines and then you have those looking to pay top dollar to have
biggest and the best computer available. Now Acer, the world second
largest computer vendor around is drawing a line in the sand with their
new top of the line PC gaming rig, the Acer Aspire “Predator” AG7750.
This
new gaming monster is packed with tons of power, housing an Intel Core
i7 quad-core processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX470 with 3-way SLI support and
12 GB DDR3 memory. It’s an insane amount of gaming potential in one
little box.
“Designed to conquer and destroy, the Aspire
Predator boasts a rugged, intimidating chassis as well as super power
and speed,” said Steve Smith, senior business manager of consumer
desktops for Acer America. “It’s a smoking hot gaming rig delivering
eye-popping graphics and dynamic audio for a jaw dropping experience
that will fire up even hard core gamers. Plus, plenty of room for future
upgrades will assist gamers in their quest to reign supreme in the new
world order.”
The new Acer Aspire “Predator” AG7750 is available
now starting as an MSRP of $1,999 at most computer retailers.
The idea of Hulu on a home console system is good for everyone. The only
real question is who will get first or again for that matter. Currently
no system has full access to the website that’s destined to be a
subscription based website but that could all change again.
Last
week the question of Hulu’s future was brought up by Bloomberg
(via, Joystiq)
and they claim a deal could finalize this week. This could all be rumor
but with Sony gearing up to release PSN+, adding Hulu to that service
would be it a very interesting accumulation of features to most PS3
owners.
There’s a rumor going around that The Old Republic might have a super
secret beta test this weekend. It might sound exciting but there’s not
much you do no matter if this rumor is true or not. Supposedly, Lucas
Arts has the beta testers under a very strict NDA and they only invited
100-200 outside testers.
To give you a visual idea of how much
this beta will mean to you if you’re not one of the very few what’ve
been invited try this; take your left hand and make an L. Next bend your
index finger so the tip of you index finger and the tip of your thumb
are touching. You now have the perfect visual representation of a secret
beta that you’re not invited to. If you did get into the beta, than
have fun with it and congratulations.
The demo for Crackdown 2 is monstrous. With so much content crammed into
one free download a timer was needed to keep gamers for sitting inside
the game even after the full game was released. Thankfully this didn't
stop all gamers in trying to get more out of the Crackdown 2 demo.
A new video has been released to give gamers the ability to break the
Crackdown 2 demo timer. This method will allow gamers to have endless
fun in the small corner of Pacific City. Just try to use this crack
quickly since Microsoft should be prepping a patch to stop this very
soon.
