As much as we would like to relive the story of Master Chief in a video
game, the truth is, it's just not going to happen. The complexity of
Master Chief’s story just wouldn’t translate to a game. While most of
his adventures have changed the way we game, the intimate details of his
origins need to be told in another format.
This is why we have
multiple books on the subject. Unfortunately, not all gamers are readers
but this doesn't mean that Bungie wants to just give up on the idea of
his history. So to bring the story to a larger audience, Marvel will
begin retelling Eric Nylund's, Halo: The Fall of Reach, in a new comic
book.
This new comic book tells the story of the young Master
Chief as he becomes the savior of the human race. The books should hit
newsstands in September, the same time as Halo: Reach.
Some time ago, Mythos was on the
verge of release, unfortunately the company behind the game was on the
verge of collapse at the same time. Ultimately the game's old publisher
disappeared before the game saw the light of day. Later, MMO publisher
RedBana picked up the rights Mythos and started preparing it for
release. The news that Mythos went from sitting in limbo to sitting
pretty was welcome news to fans of the game and other like it, namely
Diablo.
Things are about to get even more exciting for these
fans. Today, the Mythos website has gone online and with it a ton of new
game content. You'll find new screenshots, videos and more importantly,
you can even signup for the closed beta. So point your browser tohttp://mythos.redbana.com/and join the masses before Mythos
is finally released to the world.
When gamers get together with
sci-fi buffs, a conversation of which Snake is better is bound to pop
up. The two characters have multiple similarities and in the Metal Gear
Solid series, you can find an endless stream of mentions to the Escape
series. Yet, no matter who's having the conversation an unanswerable
question always pops up; is John Carpenter, creator of the original
Snake of Escape From New York fame cool with the video games.
Well it turns out that
John Carpenter actually gave Hideo Kojima the thumbs up on the series a
long time ago. He’s never had an issue with the game and mow, John
Carpenter is working on Fear 3 while Kojima is still giving Snake a good
name. But for fans of the Escape series there's one question that still
remains, what the hell happened in Cleveland?
During Escape From L.A., a
few characters mentioned Snake's adventure in Cleveland. The details of
this tale were never fully explained leaving most fans wanting to know
what the hell happened in Cleveland? Maybe since Carpenter and Kojima
are so buddy-buddy maybe they could get together and make a game telling
us how Snake Escaped From Cleveland.
Back when Lead and Gold was released there were some interesting
problems. Yet even with these problems Lead and Gold is still a game
worth playing. Now to make things even more exciting for Lead and Gold
fans, a new patch will add a much needed feature to the mix, Dedicated
Servers.
With this new addition of dedicated servers, players
can really get a better feel for the game. This new feature could also
be a good thing for the game itself since it can help to add more
gamers. This is however more important for game publisher but it’s a
welcomed feature no matter what gains from it.
It looks like Microsoft is taking a step forward while taking a step
back with the new Xbox LIVE Family Pack. Starting in November, Microsoft
will begin selling Xbox LIVE Gold accounts in packs of four at a
reduced price. While on the surface this could look like the answer some
gamers have been begging for since Microsoft sold the first LIVE
membership, but it’s not a perfect solution. Fortunately the problems
aren’t in the fine print or within some deceptive loophole. The problems
right in front of our face.
The problem this that isn’t a
simple case of buying a pack of four LIVE memberships like you would
find on a service like Steam. In Steam at certain times, a game
publisher, mainly Valve, will allow a group of gamers to purchase four
copies of a game at a reduced price. For example if a game is $24.99
individually Steam will offer a four pack at $74.99. This way everyone
gets the games, Valve or the other publisher runs a sale without
destroying their bottom line. However, this pack you will get four
memberships for the price of two but one account will act as the main
account with the other three being treated as satellite accounts.
This
problem might be avoidable if you have a close group of friends but
this “family” pack is made for a family with four Xbox 360 units. If you
have a family like this that’s great but since the host account can
control purchasing and where and how Microsoft Points are spent it’s
still a questionable situation.
I think this is a step in the
right direction but I just don’t think it’s a full step forward. Maybe
Microsoft just needs time taking baby steps before it can take big
strides.
Since the release of Red Dead Redemption, gamers have been waiting for
the release of a free online Co-Op mission pack. Well the waiting is
over and that pack is ready for release. Not only is the pack out now, a
new trailer for the pack will get even more excited for the game.
The external story of Crackdown is an interesting one. From a game saved
by a beta to sleeper hit that caused a fan frenzy, Crackdown is one of
the most dynamic upstarts in gaming. Soon the game will return with it's
long awaited sequel. To whet the appetites of the game's huge fan base,
Microsoft has released a new demo. Will this new taste give the game
even more hype or will it leave gamers searching for something else on
the gaming menu?
Over the last few years it's been hard trying to find a game that's an arcade style flight simulator without the need for a full cockpit setup. Fans of games like Crimson Skies have been waiting years for a game where they take to skies with some fast paced action. It's just a little surprising that the game so many have been waiting for would feature Snoopy and rest of Peanuts. But at this point, something is always better than nothing.
When it comes to the old west and a visual medium it was movies or nothing. For years video game developers have tried to bring this world to life and produce something close to the epic spaghetti westerns most of us remember. In that time there had been a few steps in the right direction but no game ever stood out as a true competitor to the film representation of the modern day western. After of waiting and hoping for a game that's a little more than a less than average open world title filled with run down towns stuck in a desert, Rockstar games has brought the world the sequel to Red Dead Revolver and changed the way we look at open world games, the west and how to tell a story with Red Dead Redemption.
The new game from Codmaster, Bodycount, is a high mayhem firstperson shooter with over the top locations and even crazier firefights. This new FPS is the newest creation for Stuart Black, the man behind the hit FPS title Black.
When you hear the name Nail’d you might think about something dirty. You may not be alone but Nail’d is a game about a dirty sport. But in this sport you ware cloths and use big machines and it’s not the same kind of dirty.
Nail’d is a new motocross racer with attitude unlike the other games that could thought of as extreme motocross racers. The tacks look gritty and the racing looks fast. Let’s hope for more information in the coming months.
