This past week the gaming world was fixed on Cologne, Germany and
Gamescom, Europe’s largest video game trade show. During the event Valve
released some new screenshots from Portal 2. Today, we received an
email with those images and we now present them to you.
In the
images you can see some of the inner workings of Aperture Science.
Unfortunately these images don’t give you a very diverse look at the new
game but any look at the game is a better than being left in the dark. A
full set of the images can be found after the jump.
As the NFL gets ready for the start of the Football season I sit back
and think, the fast Football starts, the closer I am to watching Hockey.
The idea of the gridiron doesn’t hold a candle next to a puck flying at
a player’s head at 100 mph. I don’t know where this obsession started
but I have special place in my heart for guys beating the hell out of
each other to move a pick in the fasting moving sport on two feet. Now I
can take this love of the game with me where ever I go with the new NHL
2K11 for iPhone and iPod touch from 2K Sports.
“The quality of
this game is outstanding and it’s just pure fun,” said Jason Argent,
vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. “Featuring graphics,
animation and intense hockey action found in the console game - this is a
complete NHL gaming experience that fits in your pocket. Now diehard
hockey fans have something to do while they wait for the 2010 NHL season
to begin.”
Not only is this a great way to pass the time during
the tail end of the off-season but the game is discounted right now for
$1.99 on the App Store. But don’t wait for the season to start before
picking up the game, this discounted price will only last a week.
This
new game sounds like the perfect app for Hockey fans while sitting
through a few more months of other sports. So pick up NHL 2K11 for
iPhone and iPod touch now on the App Store and take out some aggression
on the ice.
Last night was the second season premiere of WCG Ultimate Gamer on the SyFy channel, which, as we noted yesterday,
features 12 gamers living under one roof competing to win the title of
“Ultimate Gamer”. Each week one game will be featured, and the ‘gamers’
will compete in both real-world challenges inspired by the featured
game as well as actually playing the game itself to see who’s got those
mad skillz. So the real question is - is it worth your time, or should
you stick to playing games yourself?
The cast is diverse,
featuring some well-known names, at least as the gaming community is
concerned, with individuals like Justin “JWong” Wong, the current US
Street Fighter 4 champion, and Kat “III Mystik III” Gunn, one of the top
female gamers in the States. The range of genres the gamers specialize
in is as equally diverse, from sports to shooters, and each will look to
capitalize on their strengths if they get the chance. Each week
they’ll face off in the challenges and be ranked according to their
performances. The gamer on bottom is in the hot seat, while the
top-ranked player will choose who else is up for elimination. Those 2
will go head to head, and the loser here will be sent packing. With some
big gaming-community names in there, you might just want to check it
out to see a bit more of those you know and catch some of their skills
in action.
As for the show itself, the premiere episode starts
with pretty standard fare – introduction of all the contestants, and of
course the hosts, Hannah Simone and Joel Gourdin. All of the players get
settled in, backgrounds are noted, and a bit of conflict, stemming from
some of them competing in previous tournaments, is revealed. The house
is more or less any gamer’s dream – huge brand-new HD TVs from Samsung
that look to be the latest paper-thin models, top-of-the-line gear like
fighting sticks (specifically for this week’s game), and a stocked
fridge. The gamers all got a chance to settle in, check out their new
digs, and play around with the featured game this week - Tekken 6. After
all this introduction, the actual competition finally starts.
Some new shots of the action and environments from Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment’s The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest came out of Middle Earth yesterday. The screens show off the new environments of Fangorn Forest and Pelennor Fields, along with some different views of the promised co-op gameplay and various enemies, from the small to the bigger-than-both-of-you-put-together size.
The game is scheduled for release in September for the Wii, PS3, PS2, PSP, and DS, with the console versions being built from the ground-up by Headstrong Games with motion control in mind. Players will take on the role of Aragorn in his quests around Middle Earth and use various weapons and tools, like swords, spears, shields, and such; co-op modes will also be available with the second player as Gandalf, which we’re sure is accompanied by his white-wizard magic. A strong emphasis has also been put on the accessible nature of the gameplay, which is said to accommodate players of all ages, with the co-op portion being something the whole family can enjoy together.
We’re counting on seeing and hearing more about Aragorn’s Quest in the lead-up to its September release. In the mean time, check out the new screens after the jump.
Starting February 9, 2011 Valve will bring the world back to the
hallways and test areas of Aperture Science in Portal 2. This all new
Portal adventure will be more than a return for most players. Not only
will players have their first shot at taking revenge GLaDOS or at least
stop her from taking the same revenge on you. This will also be the
first time PS3 gamers can experience the world of Portal. Plus PS3
owners will also get a chance use the power of the Steam Cloud. It could
be the most important release for the PS3 but I could just be getting
over excited.
When Insomniac Games announced its separation from Sony, it was unclear
where their next game would appear. The first thought was that Insomniac
Games and their Resistance series would begin showing up on other
system like the PC and Xbox 360. Fortunately for Sony and their fans
this might not be the case.
Recently Insomniac Games announced
that one of their flagship titles, Resistance 3, will be exclusively
released on the PS3. To solidify this statement Insomniac Games released
this new teaser trailer to whet the appetite of gamers.
In
this new trailer gamers won't see this new title in action but they will
see one of the best produced trailers of the year. With moody images,
periodic music this trailer is more than anyone ever expected.
Xbox
360 owners have been crashing castles and saving princesses for a long
time with Castle Crasher. Soon, PS3 fans will have their first shot at
playing the extremely popular indie title via PSN.
Announced today, The Behemoth will finally release Castle Crashers for
the PlayStation 3 on Tuesday, August 31st. This new iteration of Castle
Crashers has been in development for over a year to earn The Behemoth's
stamp of approval.
If you don't know about Castle Crashers because you skipped it when the game was first released on the Xbox 360 or you only own a PS3, you can read our review of the game for more information.
One of the most anticipated games of the next year is Homefront from Kaos Studios and THQ.
In this new first person shooter, gamers will witness the cost of war
in the near future. As factions fight to bring down the US, you must
take up arms against a world that has its cross-hairs pointed right at you.
This sounds all happy and cheery but until now the game's PC release
was up in the air. The game is slated for a release on both the PS3 and Xbox
360 but there was no talk about the PC release. Now that question has
been answered with the announcement that Digital Extremes will head the
development of Homefront on the PC.
“Digital Extremes has a superb track record in PC development,” said David Votypka, General Manager at Kaos Studios, THQ. “While the team here at Kaos is completely focused on the core Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Homefront,
our partnership with Digital Extremes means that PC gamers can look
forward to a version of the game tailored to the demands of the
discerning PC gamer.”
It's exciting to hear that this game will
reach PC gamers, but it is bittersweet since this PC release won't be
considered the core release. Hopefully this status motivates Digital
Extremes to push the game as far as possible.
“We’re building on the great game that Kaos Studios is making and enhancing it with specific PC relevant features,” added Frank De Lise, Executive Producer, THQ. “PC players will be able to set up and host Homefront
dedicated servers and enjoy additional community features including
clan support. We believe the core PC first-person-shooter fan will
really appreciate these features, which are becoming increasingly rare.”
This new PC announcement is great for PC fans. On top of this announcement new screenshots of Homefront have been release and no matter what style of gamer you are, you can see that this game looks great.
Gamers looking to rest their cramped hands for a bit can check out the second season premier of “WCG Ultimate Gamer”, which airs tonight at 11 PM Eastern and Pacific on the SyFy channel. As Namco noted in their news announcement, this season of Ultimate Gamer will kick off featuring Tekken 6.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today let slip a few more details about the newest Mortal Kombat, due out in 2011 for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. WB has promised a return to the roots of the series in terms of gameplay, and the 2 characters confirmed in the latest news continue the trend - Kitana and Cyrax. Kitana, and her evil twin Mileena, first appeared in MK2, while Cyrax, a robotic ninja warrior, debuted in MK3. These 2 compliment the other characters from the early games in the series already confirmed to return, including Kung Lao, Johnny Cage, and Sub-Zero.
The upcoming version of Mortal Kombat is being developed by NetherRealm Studios, formerly known as Midway Games Chicago, and looks to return to a more classic 2D fighting style. The increased power of the current generation of consoles will help create newer levels of gore, guts, and blood than ever. WB also promises to deliver in this installment a more “mature presentation”, something which had been toned down in the previous MK Vs. DC title as compared to the early MK games.
Two new environments – The Desert and Bell Tower – were also unveiled. Screenshots of these new battlegrounds, as well as some of the confirmed characters in action, can be found after the jump.
Activision today released the full list of all on-disc tracks for the latest installment of their Guitar Hero franchise. Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock will ship with over 90 tracks, with artists ranging from the recurring, like Aerosmith and Alice Cooper, to those new to the Guitar Hero games. Activision also noted that tracks will include original ones “written and composed by AAA talent,” as well as some “special re-records by famous artists.”
“We engaged our fans to find out what they really wanted and then hand-picked over 90 tracks that deliver the ultimate rock experience,” said Tim Riley, Vice President of Music Affairs for Guitar Hero.“From the new guitar controller to the gameplay to the on-disc set list, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock is truly a return to rock.”
Some of the tracks include well-known songs like The Offspring’s “Self Esteem” and “Children of the Grave” from Black Sabbath, as well as lesser-known fare such as “Suffocated” by Orianthi and Anberlin’s “The Feel Good Drag.” The full track list is after the jump.
When Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock is released September 28th for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Wii, players will have a chance to embark on the franchise-first Quest mode which will task virtual virtuosos with saving rock across an epic journey. Other gameplay modes set to be included are staples like Quickplay, Party Play, and Competitive modes. Warriors of Rock will, of course, allow up to 4 instruments simultaneously.
Neversoft Entertainment is handling the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, with Vicarious Visions strumming out the Wii one. The game is rated T, for Lyrics, Mild Fantasy Violence, and Mild Suggestive Themes. You can visit the official website at www.GuitarHero.com for more information.
