In an effort to court PS3 gamers looking for new games that take advantage of Sony’s Playstation Move controller or those fancy new 3D TVs, Sega announced today they’ll bring their venerable tennis franchise to the PS3.
“Virtua Tennis 4 is a fantastic example of how our 3rd Party partners are seeing the potential not just in PlayStation Move, but also 3D,” said Simon Rutter, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing at SCEE.“The combination of both Move and 3D offers an entirely new gaming experience and one that has the potential to completely change how people interact with their entertainment.Virtua Tennis 4 shows how this technology can be implemented and we are very excited to be working with SEGA on this.”
Sega is banking that the Move controller can match a player’s movement more accurately, so factors like the angle at which you hold it and the speed of your swing will determine spin, power, and accuracy.Sega is also touting that the 3D will enhance the experience with “unprecedented realism.”
“We have always strived to provide a tennis experience that is both true to the sport and great fun to play, and we are continuing to work with Sony to make this happen”, commented Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA Europe and SEGA America. “With Virtua Tennis 4 being developed for PlayStation Move and featuring 3D technology, the boundaries of realism in sports video games are being pushed even further”.
Sega is planning to match this news with additional information in the time leading up to Virtua Tennis 4’s release, including the roster of players and details on the various game modes. Virtua Tennis 4 is being developed by the original Virtua Tennis team in Japan. Gamers looking to net a copy of this game will have to wait until at least next year; other than 2011, Sega didn’t specify a release date.
For those of you who love tennis and have the advantage of being at Gamescom, Virtua Tennis 4 is playable at the SCEE stand in Hall 07.1. For more information on the game, visit Sega's website at www.sega.com
Good news PS3 owners, Bioware's hit Mass Effect 2 is finally getting a
PS3 release. Slated for a January 2011 release, Mas Effect 2 for the PS3
will give PS3 owners their first chance at experiencing life as
Commander Shepard.
This is a great move forward for the PS3 but
there are a few problems with the release of Mass Effect 2. The game,
which will feature some bonus materials, will not allow players to play
through the first game. This will alter the way the game is experienced
next to the PC and Xbox 360. Hopefully the new content will be a good
trade off.
With the recent release of the Legends and Killers Pack, more and more
players are enjoying Red Dead Redemption online. However, some players
are taking this as an opportunity to take advantage of these returning
players with tainted save files. To combat this issue Rockstar Games is
getting ready to eliminate the problem.
In one week, Rockstar
Games will begin banning players that have hack save files. This warning
by Rockstar Games gives players a full week to delete these
questionable files. This also gives Rockstar Games a full to ready the
ban-hammer.
If you don't want to get hammer dropped on your
Gamertag or PSN name, you should get rid of the files by Tuesday of next
week, August 24th. On the other hand if you're looking to take a risk,
find one of the save files and have an adventurous week. Just remember
you’ll be a cheater and the Penny-Arcade taught us an important lesson about cheaters years ago.
You can't have an expansion to World of Warcraft without a Collector's
Edition. Every release of the game so far has had one and now it's time
talk about the Collector's edition of the newest World of Warcraft
expansion Cataclysm.
This new Collector's edition which was
announced today will feature a new 176 page art book, behind the scenes
DVD, Soundtrack, Mouse Pad and a deck of the World of Warcraft trading
card game. Oh, and just like the other Collector’s Editions of World of
Warcraft's, you will also receive the special in-game pet Lil’
Deathwing.
This new Collector's edition will cost $80 and will
only be available at retail stores. As for a release date, it's still up
in the air. Currently the game is the beta test phase and doing
incredibly well. Hopes are that a release date will be issued very soon
but even it’s unknown when we’ll hear about a release date.
Over the next year Terminal Reality’s Infernal Engine is set to power
some of the hottest games. Today the lineup of the games using Terminal
Reality’s Infernal Engine was released and by the looks of it, the
Infernal Engine is getting quite a workout.
Each game on the list is better than the last with the cross-platform Def Jam Rapstar slate to help the engine shine. In the coming months games like Disney’s Guilty Party for the Wii and The Force Unleashed II
for the Wii will help to put the Infernal Engine on the map but in 2011
the Infernal Engine really takes off. In 2011 the Infernal Engine will
power both Thor and Captain America on the Wii and PSP. If
that’s not enough, you can look for The Ginder in 2011 on Xbox 360 and
PS3 which is also getting a boost from the Infernal Engine.
"We
couldn’t be happier to have this line-up of incredible titles over the
coming months" said Joe Kreiner, VP Sales and Marketing at Terminal
Reality. "Between all the great games that have licensed the Infernal
Engine, and the amazing projects we have developed in-house, it’s
shaping up to be another banner year for our company.”
I think you can agree that the next year looks pretty exciting for the company that brought us Ghostbusters: The Videogame. With a line up this strong I can’t wait to hear about more great games from Terminal Reality and its Infernal Engine.
To some gamers, Downloadable Content is a bad
word. The idea of paying for new content is a concept some gamers still
can’t understand unless that DLC is worth playing. Rockstar Games is
trying to display that worth with a new DLC pack The Legends and Killers
Pack for their hit Western, Red Dead Redemption. In this new pack
players get new multiplayer maps, new character models and a new weapon,
the Tomahawk. It’s a set of add-ons that’s perfect for any fans of RDR.
Early this year during PAX East, Uber Entertainment introduced gamers to Monday Night Combat.
At the show, the game was seen as the best game on the floor. At the
time it was even considered to be a hit before a release date was even
announced. Was this too much hype too soon or were we all just accepting
the inevitable?
On the surface, Monday Night Combat is a mix of Game Shows, Team Fortress and Defenders of the Ancients. However after playing the game you’ll start to redefine this concept and find that Monday Night Combat
is more like a third person Demigod that sits in a game show and looks
slightly similar to Team Fortress 2. Later you’ll discover a much deeper
experience.
Last week, 2K Games and Irrational Games announced the next iteration in
the BioShock series. This new game titled BioShock: Infinite is slated
to be the next step in a franchise that’s becoming one of the most
iconic first person shooter series since Half-Life. While this is
announcement creates wonder and exciting for fans of the first two games
or fans on the game’s creator Ken Levine, already within days of the
announcement the game is already teetering on the verge of overhype.
Let me start out by making something completely clear, I’m a huge fan ofBioShock and BioShock 2.
I think the first game is one of the most impression combination of
well crafted gameplay and clever write of this gaming generation. I felt
the second game was as impressive but in no way superior to the
original. When this newest title was released, it was the most exciting
news of the week, month and summer. However, it looks like I’m not the
only one excited about the project.
To announce the game,
Irrational Games and 2K Games hosted an elaborate press event in New
York City which I was not asked to attend. Not that I should have been
invited but I need to disclose my absence. On the other hand, the long
list of game journalists that did attend the event have issued lengthy
previews of the game. This made the late week’s game news and weekend
gamer chatter all BioShock all the time. If you’re working for
Irrational Games, this means the event was a great success but could
this cause a little too much hype?
When you’re looking at one of the most anticipated games of the last ten
years it might be hard to not feel like you’re going over the game with
a fine toothed comb. Every nook and cranny should be examined with the
finest care. But, will you find the game you’ve been looking for? Or a
game that’s too close to its predecessor?
In the month before the
release of StarCraft II, Blizzard ran an extended beta that gave gamers
an endless amount of time to explore the game’s multiplayer. This
review isn’t about that. While the world was drooling for the
multiplayer, I was begging for the singleplayer, and I got everything I
wanted and more. The story of StarCraft II is undeniably one of the best
stories in gaming. Before starting this sequel I had planned on picking
up the StarCraft books. After playing the game it became clear that I
had to pick up those books. That’s something I can’t say about most
games that have corresponding book series, but the StarCraft story
totally grabbed me.
It’s easy to get excited about a game like Guild Wars 2. The first game
was near perfect and it’s extremely playable even today. With the next
game in the series, Arena Net is taking Guild Wars 2 into a new level of
storytelling with what they describe as a living MMO where players
alter the world with their actions. It’s an ambitious idea that could
work and after watching this new trailer you’ll be quick to jump on this
bandwagon.
I’ve already watched this trailer a few times and I
can’t get over how it looks like a mix of Guild Wars 1 and Aion. I
haven’t heard about any connection between the two other than the
publisher but no matter how you see it, this game looks amazing. I do
however suggest you watch the video at least twice. There’s a point
where I stop listening to what the dev team was explaining and I watched
just video in awe.
The Nintendo is a bestselling system to the point that at one time you
were either a gamer that had a Wii or a gamer that wanted a Wii. A few
years in and now it seems like every gamer that was looking for a Wii
has one and Nintendo wants to make sure you know it. In a recent press
release Nintendo announced that the Wii has reached 30 Million units
sold.
That’s impressive whether you like the Wii or hate it.
Selling that many units since 2006 is big in any market but in a gaming
market during this garbage economy it’s huge. Let’s hope they have
continued success.
