This week doesn’t have much going for it in the way of new games aside
from Madden 11. This doesn’t mean that the week is a complete bust since
week is also the same week 2Kgames releasing the Mafia II demo.
You
can pick up the demo now for the PS3 via PSN on the Xbox 360 through
Live and on the PC with Steam. I was able to download the download the
demo quickly on the PC and things should be the same for the PS3 and
Xbox 360. If I run into a problem I’ll post an update.
In the next few months many gamers will be glued to their PCs building
cities, constructing armies and preparing for war. But before all that
can happen, you have to prepare for Civilization V first and the only
way to do is to have the proper information.
Recently 2K Games
released that much needed information and now gamers know what they need
to have a PC ready to run Civ V. Hopefully the upgrades won’t be too
strenuous and you’ll be ready for the game when it hits stores in
September.
When you’re preparing to show off a game you need a few elements to get
people to take notice. You need fast action, new content and a hint at
something mysterious in the game.
This new video for Call of
Duty: Black Ops has all of these things and more. With fast paced action
this new video will forces you take notice of the new CoD. Plus it
should quite down some of the backlash since the Infinity Ward exodus.
Before the release of TransFormers: War for Cybertron, Activision
announced some special pre-order only characters. A few stores would
hand these characters out and each store would only have one exclusive
character to give away per pre-order. For most games this would be a
decent situation but for Transformers, is was a scary idea. See when a
game is build off a TV show that was based on a toy series, the idea of
getting them all isn’t just a novel idea, it’s the norm. To curb the
cries of fans Activision has release a Character and Map pack to sooth
the savage TransFormers fans but is this enough to calm them down until
the next map pack or possible sequel?
When it comes to fans of Need for Speed, the idea
of taking the long running racer into the realm of an MMO is pleasant
thought. Racing through the streets with old friends and new ones while
building your own character sounds like a great idea. As add cars and
customizing those cars only helps to whet the appetite of most race
fans. But when you add in the causal game factor you might be a little
confused at what you find. In the new MMO Need for Speed World racer
fans get their chance to take their racing style to the world but is
this game the racing sim they’ve been waiting for or another casual game
for the growing casual audience?
There are a few games that just don’t need a demo. Call of Duty Modern
Warfare 2 is one of those games. But this didn’t stop Activision from
putting one together 9 months after its original release. Right now you
and the three other people that haven’t played MW2 can pick up the demo
on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Surprisingly there’s no demo for the PC.
The
demo features an early level in the game called Cliffhanger. This level
has become the second most iconic level in the game next to No Russian.
In the level you trek through the icy mountains of Kazakhstan in an
attempt to infiltrate an enemy base. Very Nice!
Sorry I had to go for the corny Borat joke. I was going to mention Bilo but I think it would be too obscure.
Today is a good day to be a fan of the Dark Knight. Warner Bros.
Interactive today announced the next game in their new Batman series,
Batman: Arkham City.
This new game is being developed by
Rocksteady Studios. You might remember Rocksteady Studios as the team
behind Arkham Asylum. As they continue this new Batman franchise you can
expect the same gritty story and moody graphics as in the previous
game. It’s a welcomed announcement for those not interested in a
childish Batman story line.
Currently Batman: Arkham City is
slated for a Fall 2011 released date. The game will be released on the
Xbox 360, PC and PS3. More news should follow in the coming months.
Bad news Crysis fans, the next game in the series isn't going be
released as soon as you might think. During a conference call, EA
revealed that the next Crysis title isn't coming out the year.
After seeing the impressive videos of Crysis 2 you may have gone back
and re-played the game. If you skipped the game all together than you
might even be playing it now or planning to play it before the release
of the new game. This means that for some of us, the news that Crysis 2
is getting pushed back to 2011 isn't that upsetting.
Now for
hardcore fans of the series this news is terrible news and incredibly
depressing but there is a silver lining. With the game getting pushed
back it does give the developers more time to finish up the game and
ultimately give you a better product.
Are you looking for more content as you walk the trails of the Western
Border States? That wait will be over very soon with the release of the
game's newest content package, Legends and Killers Pack.
In
this new DLC for Red Dead Redemption will include new multiplayer map
areas, a new weapon: The Tomahawk and eight new multiplayer characters.
Now you might be asking yourself when this pack will be released. This
new DLC will be released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for $9.99 and 800
MS Points respectively on August 10, 2010. So start building up your
level now so you can get the full fill of this new DLC.
One of the biggest complaints with Mod Nation Racers, is the long load
times. It's such a big issue that the game saw lower rating scores
because of the problem. But later today that problem will be a thing of
the past.
Today Sony is releasing a new patch for the game to
combat that issue. Now after this new patch, the game will not be
without load times but they should be decreased.
This is one of
the most needed corrections for this game and most others. I'm just glad
to see that Sony took all the bitching to heart and made the right move
in fixing the game.
After last week’s StarCraft love-fest you shouldn't be shocked to hear
that the game did well in stores. You would probably expect to hear that
the game was last week’s best selling game. Would you surprised to hear
that it sold more than most PC titles? It did and a lot more.
According to a press release issued by Blizzard, StarCraft II is one of
the best selling games of the year. Not only is one of the best selling
games of the year but in the first 24 hours the game sold 1 million
copies, in the first 48 hours the game sold 1.5 million copies.
Not bad considering the less than stellar PC market.
