It's tough to read through rumors and figure out which is possible and
which is too bizarre to care about. Yet every so often a rumor comes
along that'll make you calmly say "Yeah that could work." This week such
a rumor appeared on EuroGamer. The rumor is that Rockstar Games is all over the Hollywood researching for the next GTA title.
This is a rumor that could be right on the money. Rockstar spends years
researching for their games and if I was a researcher for RockStar
Games I wouldn't say no to the idea of researching in L.A. but there's
one major issue, L.A. Noire.
For some reason EuroGamer and most of the other sites
covering this rumor have forgotten about the yet to be released L.A.
Noire. Now it is true that that game has been in the works for a
sometime but there is a great possibility that the developers of that
game could be trying to finish things up and are looking for some extra
help. On the other hand it is possible that RockStar Games is doing some
research for the next GTA but I was really just hoping for a new Vice
City title.

When you see a track list for a game like Guitar Hero you instantly
think of what song your friends should sing and when. With the new list
of songs to be featured in the upcoming Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock
you'll get a good idea of what I'm talking about.
Amongst my
circle of friends I know we'll probably have the Bad Brains, Pantera and
Rise Against songs mastered on the first night. As a goof one of us
will throw on Unskinny Bop but it'll get uncomfortable the instant
everyone realizes I know every word. The 80s was a strange time to grow
up.
Full list after the jump.

Running a successful MMO in this age of WoW isn’t easy. Everyday a new
or old MMO is throwing in the pay-service towel and reinventing the game
with a free-to-play service. The newest of these games is Everquest II
Extended but Sony Online Entertainment isn’t ready to fully take the
free-to-play plunge.
This new iteration of Everquest II will be
free-to –play but there is a catch. There will be elements of the game
that are free but the game will run on a subscription tier system.
Bronze or Free will have access to the full game but they will be
restricted to two character slots and only a few spell tiers. The other
paid subscription tiers give you move access to the game with the most
expensive tier giving you full access to the game. There are three paid
subscription tier starting at $10.00 a month, $14.99 a month and $200 a
year for the top tier.
Not only is EQII going free-to-play but
it’s also becoming easier to get started. To streamline the process of
registration and game installation, players will have the opportunity to
download a web based client so players won’t have to deal with a large
download. This should let gamers get into the game quicker than most
games.
This is an interesting way of taking a game with a less
than desirable user base. I don’t know if it’ll help expand the user
numbers beyond the free-to-play audience since the players that want to
pay for the game should already be playing for the game. Either way, I
know I’ll be checking it out when this free-to-play version finally
shows up.

Today is an amazing day in gaming. On this day we finally get our first
chance to play the final release of StarCraft II. This may sound trivial
to non-StarCraft fans but for fans of the series and the Real Time
Strategy genre, this is a day that's been ten years in the making.
Over the course of the last few years, fans of the StarCraft series
have been itching just to hear about this new title. Back in February,
some fans got that chance with the release of the StarCraft II beta.
Since then thousands of fans have put thousands of hours into fighting
against each other and against the game's AI. Now those fans are about
to heat up the StarCraft Universe again with the release of the final
game with its full multiplayer and all new singleplayer story mode.
Now with the game fully intact players can finally enjoy the way the
good people at Blizzard intend. Hopefully fans of the game will find
everything they wanted and more. You can find StarCraft II at most of
retail stores near you or online but you can also pick this game up at
Battle.net. Look for our review very soon.

What would a Halo release be without a huge amount of fanfare? You can't
simply release a Halo title, you have to release new controllers,
action figures, cups at 7-11 and not to mention a new Xbox 360 bundle.
This time around, Microsoft has a new edition of the Xbox 360 which
means that an all new Halo title is going to need an all new Xbox 360
bundle to beat all previous bundles. That bundle was recently announced.
So as the summer comes to an end Microsoft will heat things up with not
just release of Halo: Reach, on September 14 but they will also release
a new Xbox 360 Halo: Reach Bundle on the same day. This new bundle with
feature the new Xbox 360 with a Halo styled paint job along with a
custom controller.
So if you need a new Xbox 360 or you never
had one before, this is the Xbox 360 to get. Not just for the new Xbox
360's larger hard drive and thin design but it's a great place to start
enjoying Halo. Look for Halo: Reach and the new Halo Reach Xbox 360
Bundle on September 14.

When you think about digital distribution as a gamer you might think
you’re paving the way with this form of commerce. Almost daily we’re
inundated with new downloadable games, sales on sites like Gamersgate,
Direct2Drive and Steam, and let’s not forget about micro-transitions.
Gamers might be patting themselves on the back as the world goes all
digital. However, it looks like the real movers and shakers in the world
of digital distribution come from a very unlikely source.

A few weeks ago, Major Nelson announced Destination Arcade.
This new take on the current Xbox LIVE Arcade setup was a change that
had most gamers feeling hopeful that the Xbox 360 would be heading in
the right direction. While talking about the new Destination Arcade some
expressed their disdain for the current Xbox Dashboard while others
were concerned this new app would fall flat. Either way, any kind of
change was welcomed with open arms.
A week later it was announced that Destination Arcade would be released one week later than expected and would only be available during Microsoft’s annual Summer of Arcade
event. For those that download the app, they will have access to the
app after the event but is it worth downloading in the first place?

Each current generation consol has its selling points. For the longest
time, Microsoft’s big marketing tool for the Xbox 360 was Netflix. This
service gave the Xbox 360 the perfect advantage over both the Wii and
PlayStation 3. Fortunately for gamer’s with other systems or multiple
systems, both the PS3 and Wii finally have the ability to use the
Netflix service. The only drawback was the need for a Netflix disc to
use the service. Soon that should be a thing of the past for the PS3. In
a recent conference call, CEO Reed Hastings was heard making some
powerful statements about the matter.
"Before our next call in
October, we expect to be launching a major new version of our Sony PS3
user interface which doesn't require a disc and is dynamically updated
continuously with the latest Netflix UI improvements,"
This is
huge news for PS3 owners begging for both a higher quality service and
the remove of the Netflix disc. For those with multiple systems the
remove of the disc isn’t as important as the upgrade to the Netflix UI
since the disc is a superficial complaint next to the low grade Netflix
UI on the PS3. As for Wii owners that also have a problem with the disc.
Your still going to need that disc and it doesn’t look like that’s
going to change. The Wii’s internal memory is a little too low for a
non-disc solution at this time.
