Back in 2000, American McGee was just another game designer. He had
worked on some of the most influential PC titles of the 90s but he was
still just another designer. Then Alice was released and everything
changed.
Since the release of the first Alice, American McGee
became a well know designer to PC gamers. He went on to open his own
studio Spicy Horse in China and continued to turn children’s stories
into dark tales with American McGee’s Grimm. Now the man that
knows how to tell a story is back with Alice: Madness Returns.
“Alice
is a classic fiction, infinitely rich with memorable characters, places
and experiences. Our approach to Alice: Madness Returns takes
this colorful world and reinvents it with psychotic personalities and
pervasive insanity,” said American McGee, Spicy Horse Games Co-Founder
and Senior Creative Director. “We can’t wait to share our vision with
Alice in Wonderland fans and gamers around the world.”
There is
little other information on this new game but in the weeks we should
know more. For now, keep an eye out for Alice: Madness Returns
and try to dig out your old copy of Alice.
Over the last week some people have been throwing around the rumor that
Call of Duty could go pay to play. Some others were trying to say that
this would happen with Call of Duty: Black Ops. Yet most gamers tried to
say that this would happen with Modern Warfare 2. It seemed that no
matter the scenario, Call of Duty was going to cost you a lot of cash.
There
are however a few problems with this rumor. First of all, taking a game
like Modern Warfare 2 and turning it into a pay to play game after
release is a death sentence. No gamer would continually pay money for a
game that’s only top dog for a year. Secondly, I don’t think Microsoft
would be to happy to find out that they just inked a deal to get the
upcoming CoD map packs as an exclusive when the game is going to be pay
to play. That’s just a bad idea from the start and if you don’t believe
me just read this tweet from the
community manager for Black Ops. It would hurt the gamers as well as the
console makers.
On the other hand, Call of Duty the MMO is
inevitable. The game is huge and getting another successful MMO under
the belt of Activision Blizzard would be huge. Plus with World of
Warcraft staying put as the world’s biggest MMO there’s no reason not to
try.
One of the most important jobs for a game producer is to get people
talking about you product. For some producers, that means doing an
obscene amount of interviews, for others it means getting promotional
materials to your potential audience.
For a famous game producer
like Ryoto Niitsuma, you become the promotion. In this video we can see
how Capcom is preparing for the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con. At the
Capcom store gamers can try to pick up 1 of 51 Marvel vs. Capcom
Tournament Sticks signed by Ryoto Niitsuma, Producer of the current
versus series. These Tournament Sticks will move fast so get to the
Cpacom booth quick and while Mr. Niitsuma is probably happy to sign
everything that carries the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 name, this is probably
you best bet at getting his autograph.
Since the release of ModNation Racers, there hasn’t been much mention of
the game on this site. This doesn’t mean the game is sitting quietly as
gamers Play, Share and Create. In fact the game has seen a huge boost
in racers which means a massive influx of new tracks and mod racers.
These
new tracks and mods are the backbone of ModNation Racers. Which is why
I’m excited to display the image of this new mod of the week, Al Bundy.
With fan made content like this, there’s no reason not to check out a
racer of this quality.
The only real complaint someone can make
about an Al Bundy mod is that it should wear a either a Polk High
Football jersey or a NO MA’AM shirt. Oh, can someone make a Plymouth
Duster with the odometer about to fully roll over? I know why too much
about Married with Children.
There isn’t much to say about a game being free. This game is what it is
and can be summed up by simply saying, Alien Swarm is a new free game
on Steam. The only problem is, this doesn’t do justice to Alien Swarm
because this is more than just some free game. This is a game owned by
Valve and distributed for free on Steam with an interesting history.
Alien Swarm started as a simple mod for Unreal Tournament 2004. Later
the team was hired on by Valve and began working on re-working the game
inside of the Source Engine. Today that labor of love is being released
to the public for free.
This may not sound like a important story but if
you’re a modder hoping to get your foot in the door, these stories keep
you working hard at your craft.
James Bond is a book and movie series that totally changed the way the
story of a spy is told. For gaming Bond only has one title that truly
stands out. Hopefully that will change with the announcement of the all
new James Bond 007: Blood Stone.
This is new star-studded Bond
adventure will feature everything you expect from a Bond film with a
video game twist. Being developed by Bizarre Creations, Blood Stone
features the voice talent and likeness of Daniel Craig, Judi Dench and
Joss Stone as the new Bond Girl.
From the trailer and the press
release this looks like a solid Bond title. I can’t wait to play it on
the PS3 or Xbox 360.
Casual gaming and artistic visuals are common playmates. When these two
styles of gaming come together, gamers take notice. When you add in a
few puzzles, it seems everyone gets excited. In the new XBLA title
Limbo, these three components come together to give players a game they
can laugh with, cry with and talk about for hours on end. Limbo is more
than just a downloadable title but it’s not the new revolution in
gaming. It’s more like a return to something we lost in the past.
There are some games you anticipate and there are other games that you
wish you had at least heard about before their release. Singularity is
one of those games that you wish had heard about of even listened for
before rambling on about some game you no longer play. This makes
Singularity a bit of an mystery in the sense that not many people have
heard about it but those that have can’t stop talking about it. With
some of the most interesting plot twist and a weapon set that rivals all
other first person shooters, Singularity is more than just great game
it’s this year’s dark horse.
It’s always good to see a game with ambition. However, that ambition can
lead to some bad things. There’s always the chance of a game not living
up to expectations but in other cases that attempt to not lose
expectation can cause lengthy delays. The newest game to fall into the
welcome bracket of delays to finish a game properly is Atomic’s Breach.
As
reported by Destructoid,
the upcoming first person shooter which was set for a summer 2010
release won’t see the light of day until sometime in 2011. While some
might be disappointed by the news that the game won’t be released until
next year you should be happy to know that the Atomic isn’t going to
waste all that extra time. The company has stated that with this added
time they are going to add to the game’s already long list of features.
There’s no word yet as to what all these new add-ons will be but the
game already looks like a powerhouse so who knows what next for the
game.
The release of StarCraft II is a little over two weeks away. In that
time, StarCraft I players may need to revamp their old PCs to handle all
the new StarCraft II goodness. The process shouldn’t be too painful as
long as you’ve upgraded your box once or twice since the release of the
first StarCraft. All specs can be after clicking Read More.
The history of Mega Man is a lengthy one. Over
the years Mega Man has grown into one of Capcom’s most iconic figures.
Now Mega Man is going to take on a new battle in a very unconventional
way.
The
teaser trailer for Mega Man Universe gives us an idea of what the game
has in store for us but nothing seems to be concrete. There are no
screen shots of the game just yet, but that doesn’t mean that the
trailer is completely untrue. In a statement from Head of Research and
Development Management for Capcom Entertainment, Kenji Inafune:
“This game will break the
mold and challenge the conventional wisdom of what a Mega Man game can
be. When fans finally get to see it, I believe they’ll envision their
most far-out Mega Man dreams coming true.”
This could mean that everything in the trailer is right
on the money but for now it’s too earlier to tell. Until them I’m just
going to enjoy the trailer as I think about taking on the Mega Man
enemies as other Capcom characters. I hope Capcom remembers to include
Baby Head.
